Science in the Glorious Quran: The Lion and the Prey

“كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ. فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍ” (المدثر:50-51).

“As if they were frightened (wild) donkeys, fleeing from a lion” (Qur’an, 74:50-51).

The above verse refers to the facts that wild donkeys usually live in herds, and they fear lions and, therefore, they get scattered when attacked by a lion.

Although donkeys are naturally aggressive to canines and therefore, may be used as guardians of sheep, goats and calves against a single fox, coyote and roaming dog, they are an easy prey for lions.

Who taught the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) about the behavior of both wild animals though in the Arabian Desert, where the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) lived and was raised up, neither of these wild animals was common and the Prophet was never known to be a hunter of wild animals?

Donkeys may temporarily freeze when they are taken with a surprise attack by a lion or lioness (A). However, once they figure out the best way to escape, they run away (B)
