Science in the Glorious Quran: The Woven Cosmic Structure
“وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الْحُبُكِ” (الذاريات: 7).
“And by the heaven with its woven structure.” (Qur’an, 51:7)
The universe extends to a distance of 380 million light-years from Earth (one light year = 9.4607 trillion Km). Our galaxy is one of more than a million galaxies in the cosmos. The stars we can see are part of our Milky Way Galaxy, which contains more than 100 thousand stars like our sun.
When a giant supercomputer was used to simulate the structure of the cosmos, the outcome looked like a woven structure. Filaments of this structure are formed of galaxies. This woven structure is identical to the Qur’anic description.
“وَإِذَا قَضَىٰ أَمْرًا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُ كُن فَيَكُونُ” (البقرة: 117).
“When He decrees a matter, He only says to it: ‘Be’, and it is.” (Qur’an, 2:117)
