Salawat to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
“Allahumma, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as Thou didst bless Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim, indeed, Thou art Worthy of praise, Glorious. And grant grace to Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, just as You gave grace to Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Truly, You are Worthy of praise, Glorious ”[Bukhari, 3370].
Allah Almighty said in the Quran that He blesses the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): “Indeed, Allah and His angels bless the Prophet” (Sura 33 Hordes, ayah 56). This means that Almighty Allah praises the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in front of His angels, and the angels praise the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and turn to Allah with prayers for him.
Thus, Allah Almighty testified to the high position of our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the place of honor assigned to him: after all, the Lord Himself blesses him and His angels, who are innumerable, do the same.
And He commanded us to bless our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), thus showing him special honor and reminding us of his position: “O you who believed! Bless him and greet him with peace ”(Sura 33 Hordes, ayah 56). The Lord of the Worlds said to all of us: invoke a blessing on the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and wish him peace, welcoming and exalting him in this way. In the Sunnah, we also meet the command to invoke a blessing on the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and find different options for how this can be done. Among them is the one mentioned above.
Calling on the blessing on our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), saying “peace and blessings of Allah be upon him” or using other formulations found in the Sunnah, we carry out the command of the Almighty and the Messenger himself (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), we fulfill one of our duties to him and perfect our faith.
In addition, from the hadith, we know that whoever invokes the blessing on the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) once, the Lord will bless him ten times, and this is not surprising, because the reward usually corresponds to the deed, and the blessing receives a blessing in return – what can be more beautiful and more natural?
And in another hadith it even says: “Whoever from my community sincerely, from the bottom of his heart calls upon me a blessing, Allah will bless him ten times, and raise him ten degrees, and write down ten good deeds for him and erase the record of his ten bad deeds.” [Sahih Nasai, 1297].
From the hadiths, we also know that the closest to our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) on the Day of Judgment will be that believer who loved him and followed the precepts of religion, who more than others called upon him to bless him [Sahih at-targib, 1668].
Therefore, invoking a blessing on our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and thus following the Quran and Sunnah, we bring great benefit to ourselves and saturate our own life with grace. The grace mentioned in the hadith presupposes that the blessings given by the Lord are preserved and multiplied. Calling on blessings and grace on the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and his loved ones, we should not forget that when we wish something good to another believer and ask the Almighty to grant it to him, the Lord, if he wishes, gives this good and ourselves. And who among us does not need Divine blessing and grace?
“Verily, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.” This is the mention of the beautiful names of Allah as a means of drawing closer to Him. Our Lord is worthy of praise in Himself – and His Essence, and His names, and His qualities and His deeds, and what He does, does not go beyond mercy, wisdom and justice. He has unlimited power and absolute perfection.
Recognizing the perfection of the Lord, mentioning His beautiful names and invoking blessings on His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), we not only fulfill our duty to the Creator and our duty to honor the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), but also earn a wonderful reward and the contentment of the Almighty. To invoke a blessing on the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is one of the paths to good, which the Almighty Lord Himself has shown us, and blessed is the one who follows this path, not succumbing to laziness and not falling into neglect.
