Catholic school sought terrorism advice over girl, 6, who wore hijab
A Catholic primary school contacted anti-terrorism experts following a row about a six-year-old pupil who wore a hijab and refused to clap for Christian children.
The girl had returned to school in Newcastle upon Tyne last September, wearing the headscarf, after spending time in Sudan. She was told to remove the garment, which is banned under the school’s uniform policy.
The child’s mother, 36 — who is not being identified — said that after the incident her daughter had said she felt “no love”, adding: “They don’t like me because of my scarf.” The girl then decided to clap only for Muslim children in assembly.
