TANZANIAN PRESIDENT NAMED MOST INFLUENTIAL MUSLIM WOMAN OF THE YEAR

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu-Hassan was named Muslim of the Year by the Muslim 500 annual Jordanian publication, which collects information on the five hundred most influential Muslims.

Suluhu Hassan was named Muslim Woman of the Year for becoming the first woman president in Tanzania, a country where Muslims make up a significant but still minority of the population, and this despite the fact that she wears the hijab. In addition, the authors of the publication appreciated her contribution to attracting new investments in the private sector of the economy.

Samia Suluhu-Hassan was elected head of state in March this year after her predecessor, John Pombe Magufuli, died of heart disease. Samia began her political career at the age of 40, when she was elected to the House of Representatives of the island of Zanzibar, later she received the post of minister in the government.

In fact, Samia Suluhu-Hassan is the only full-fledged ruler of the country wearing the hijab, since the President of Singapore, Halima Yakob, who is also an observant Muslim, performs purely representative functions according to the laws of the country, according to the Peoples Gazette.
