Saudi Arabia to open the world’s first “flying museum”

Al-Ula, an amazing region of Saudi Arabia known for its natural and archaeological sites, offers a wide range of seasonal and year-round activities for local and foreign tourists, according to Arab News.

At the end of October, the world’s first “flying museum” began operating here, which is a joint project of the Royal Commission for Al-Ola and Saudi Arabia’s national air carrier Saudia. A museum has been set up on a plane flying between the capital and al-Ula, which displays replicas of artifacts found in the region during archaeological excavations. Passengers will also be able to watch a Discovery Channel documentary entitled Architects of Ancient Arabia, which was released this year, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Rebecca Foote, Director of Archeology and Cultural Heritage Research at the Royal Commission for Al-Ula, says: “There is active work in Al-Ula by local and foreign archaeologists, but we are just beginning to understand the complex nature of the region’s past. Al-Ula is the hidden gem of the Arabian Peninsula, and we are gradually discovering its secrets. I look forward to sharing more information about our work with the passengers on the Museum in the Sky, operated by Saudia. “

Philip Jones, director of management and marketing at the Royal Commission for Al-Ula, says the museum highlights the importance of archaeological work in the area, which the commission considers to be the largest archaeological program in the world to date. Philip Jones said that he and his colleagues are honored to work with Saudia and welcomed all passengers and tourists who intend to come to the region in the coming months to learn more about the history of Al Ula.

Khaled Tash, the airline’s vice president of corporate communications, says the museum’s creation is the result of “ongoing collaboration” with the Commission to highlight Al-Ula’s rich heritage and promote it as a travel destination worldwide.

Located in the northwest of Saudi Arabia , 1100 km from the capital of the country, Riyadh, the Al Ula region is known for its rich cultural heritage and unique nature. The vast area, stretching over 23,000 square kilometers, includes an oasis, sandstone mountains and ancient cultural heritage sites dating back thousands of years.
