Texas Mosque To Host Open House to Counter Islamophobia

Welcoming people of all faiths, a local mosque in North Texas will host an open house next Saturday to help alleviate Islamophobia and give a better understanding of Islam to its neighbors.

Hosting the event, the Islamic Association of North Texas is inviting neighbors of all backgrounds to come to create community alliances between Muslim Americans and their neighbors.

“Muslims are opening the doors of our mosques to our neighbors to provide them with an opportunity to get to know the Muslim community,” Sabeel Ahmed, GainPeace director, said in a statement quoted by The Dallas Morning News.

“The current political climate has created an environment of mistrust, and also a curiosity in public to learn more about Islam and these Mosque open houses will educate them and take any questions on Islam.”

The open house will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Islamic Center of North Texas. It is organized by Muslim organizations WhyIslam, GainPeace, and the Islamic Association of North Texas.

Activities at the open house include, a social hour with Henna design for women, face painting for children, an Islamic artifacts table, an exclusive virtual reality presentation that allows viewers to experience Islam, and a “try-the-Hijab” booth.

Open Mosque Days

Muslims across the world usually open doors of their mosques to guests to enable them to have a glimpse of their faith and proper understanding of its teachings.

For example, Visit My Mosque Day is held annually in a number of countries including Australia, the United Kingdom, Norway, and France.

In December 2021, the Islamic Center of Richmond held an open house to clear up misconceptions about Islam and bring people together.
