A Blackburn-based football club has invited members of the Muslim community to perform `Eid prayer on its pitch, becoming the first football club in the country to host the Islamic prayer ritual.
Blackburn Rovers said they would open Ewood Park to its local Muslim community for `Eid prayers, which mark the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, Lancashire Live reported.
“For many years, Rovers have sponsored the annual `Eid in the Park festival, which is held at Corporation Park, and the club is delighted to show further support by hosting this year’s `Eid day prayer on the Ewood Park pitch,” the Rovers wrote in a statement.

This year’s prayer event will be from 9am to 10am on Monday, May 2. On the other hand, the `Eid in the Park festival will be held on the weekend of Saturday May 7th and Sunday May 8th at Corporation Park.
Many people have taken to social media to express their delight at Blackburn Rovers’ decision to host `Eid prayers.
One social media user took Twitter to post: “Amazing gesture! Well done Blackburn.”
Marking the end of Ramadan fasting, `Eid Al-Fitr is one the two main Islamic religious festivals along with `Eid Al-Adha.
After special prayers to mark the day, festivities and merriment start with visits to the homes of friends and relatives.
