A national event to help the most vulnerable is coming to Newark, New Jersey, this weekend.
Islamic Relief USA will hold its annual “Day of Dignity” in Newark from 11 am to 2pm, on Saturday, October 15, at a park located on the corner of Broad Street and Lincoln Park.
“Islamic Relief USA has held the Day of Dignity event for several years,” said Sharif Aly, IRUSA’s chief executive officer of Islamic Relief USA, Patch.com reported.
“The events enable people who are in some of the most difficult and stressful circumstances to get access to necessary items and services,” he added.
The Day of Dignity campaign is a series of events held around the nation to get help directly to people who are homeless or from low-income households.
It aims to provide, at least for a day, relief from the regular hardships the impoverished face, regardless of race, creed, or nationality.
Among other sociological conditions, access to such essential items and services as COVID-19 vaccines, medical services, dental check-ups, haircuts, school supplies and hygienic products can be out of reach for the most at risk.
Helping People
Created in 2002 by Islamic Relief USA, the Day of Dignity creates an opportunity for caring individuals from diverse communities to provide services to their neighbors in need.
“Poverty and homelessness, unfortunately, remain major problems,” Aly said.
“The present coronavirus pandemic has only exacerbated those problems, leading to greater inequality and inequity.”
According to the US Census Bureau, approximately 37.2 million Americans currently live in poverty.
In partnership with Islamic Relief, Islamic groups nationwide are hosting Day of Dignity events to help the needy.
