UK Boxer Praises No-Violence, Alcohol-Free World Cup

As one of the most successful World Cups concluded, UK former boxer Tony Bellow praised the no-alcohol policy during Qatar 2022, saying it proved successful with no single violence case reported.

“Gotta say this! Qatar have shown what no alcohol at World Cup matches can do! I haven’t heard or seen one single bit of violence and that’s a first in my lifetime!” Bellow, who held the WBC cruiserweight title from 2016 to 2017, wrote on Twitter.

“I wasn’t sure how it was gonna work so kept quiet before but fair play to them they’ve put on an amazing spectacle👏.”

The first World Cup in an Arab country concluded on Sunday, December 18, as Lionel Messi raised the cup for Argentina.

According to a BBC report, there were no police incidents or arrests of British nationals in Qatar during England and Wales’ World Cup campaigns.

Chief Constable Mark Roberts of Cheshire Police has said it’s the first time that no fans from the UK were arrested at a World Cup.

No-Alcohol

After having English fans arrested at every prior World Cup, the Qatar World Cup is the first World Cup without free-flowing alcohol.

With alcohol banned, many fans felt safe to enjoy the tournament with their families.
