Al-Azhar Urges Muslim World to Boycott Sweden, Denmark

In a statement released on Wednesday, Al-Azhar urged the people of Muslim and Arab countries to support Islam and the Book of God by boycotting goods from Sweden and Denmark.

Muslim nations should also pressure their governments and Islamic organizations to take united and judicious stances against such sacrilegious moves, it said, RT Arabic reported.

The statement expressed surprise at the silence of the international community on such crimes, which are tantamount to direct enmity against Islam and Muslims.

It called for criminalization of desecrating religious sanctities at the international level.

Al-Azhar went on to say that the Quran, which is the book of guidance for humanity, will not be harmed by such acts of sacrilege and will remain sacred despite all such attempts.

In recent weeks, Quran desecration incidents in Sweden and Denmark, that happen with the support of the two countries’ governments, have drawn anger and condemnation in the Muslim world.

In the latest such act of sacrilege in Europe, – Islamophobes set fire to a copy of the Quran in front of the Egyptian and Turkish embassies in Copenhagen on Tuesday.

There have been massive protests in Muslim countries like Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Yemen against insults to Islamic sanctities in Europe.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said on Saturday that people who desecrate the Quran should face the most severe punishment.
