Celtic FC, Islamic Relief Help Feed 1000 Individuals and Families

A leading Scottish football club has partnered with Islamic Relief UK again to help feed around 1,000 vulnerable individuals and families across Scotland.

In a statement published by Celtic FC, the club’s official charity has worked with Islamic Relief volunteers for two days to help pack and distribute 500 essential food packages to 11 schools and four charitable organizations.

“We managed to do this in March, thanks to Islamic Relief UK, and we’re delighted we can do it again,” Tony Hamilton, Celtic FC Foundation Chief Executive, said.

“The need, however, is greater than what we are doing, and, ideally, we want to find ways to do much more of this across all of our communities.”

Representatives from Celtic’s FC Women were among the volunteers packing the meals, including Manager Fran Alonso and first-team players Kit Loferski, Caitlin Hayes, Murphy Agnew, Colette Cavanagh, Paula Partido, Luana Muñoz, and Chloe Craig.

Amazing Work

The packages contained various items, including tinned vegetables, soup, cereal, and biscuits, alongside a £15 ASDA voucher.

“We were proud to have worked with Celtic FC Foundation who are doing amazing work providing for their local communities,” Tufail Hussain, Director of Islamic Relief UK, added.

“The summer holidays should be a time of enjoyment and relaxation for young people, instead they are having to deal with hunger and the stress it causes themselves and their parents.

“The cost-of-living crisis in the UK is continuing to wreak havoc on families as many go hungry and are unable to pay their bills. This should simply not be the case in the UK.”

This isn’t the first cooperation between Islamic Relief and football clubs.

Earlier in January, the Islamic charity cooperated with Burnley FC to give out 500 essential food packs to vulnerable people as part of its winter distribution drive.

Also, in January 2023, Islamic Relief partnered with LFC Foundation to distribute 500 essential food packs to vulnerable people across the city.
