Blackburn Mosque Hosts Fun Day to Raise Funds for Renovations

  • The fundraising will help pay for the brickwork of the extension, which requires £175,000. Last year’s event raised £24,000.

For the second year, a Blackburn mosque will host a family fun day to raise funds for renovations and extension.

The event, to be hosted by Masjid-e-Rizwan on Newton Street, will take place throughout the day on Sunday, October 1, at The Ivy Center, Lancashire Telegraph reported.

“Masjid-E-Rizwan is fundraising to raise the remaining amount to start the brickwork of the extension. The total amount required for the brickwork is £175,000 and are short of £20,000,” the fundraising page on Total Giving read.

Last year’s event was highly successful as the community members raised £24,000 to support one of the oldest mosques in Blackburn.

The trustees of the Kokni Muslim Association received the planning permission to rebuild and extend the mosque in 2019.

The estimated cost of the renovations is said to be upwards of £800,000, funded by private donations. The new mosque will accommodate 450 worshippers.

There are more than 40 mosques in the borough of Blackburn with Darwen. According to the 2017 census, the proportion of Muslims in Blackburn is 30.9%.

The Muslim population is heavily concentrated in certain parts of the town like Whalley Range, Audley, and Bastwell.
