Defying Club Appeal, Celtic Fans Display Palestinian Flags
60,000 fans turned Celtic Park into a sea of Palestinian flags to show support for the Palestinian civilians who have been subject to barbaric strikes and bombings by the Israeli army for more than two weeks.
The Green Brigade, a fan group that occupies the north curve of Celtic Park, handed out the flags ahead of the game against Spanish side Atletico Madrid.
A display in the colors of the Palestine flag was also evident in the lower half of the standing section well before kick-off, the BBC reported.
The club issued a plea to supporters earlier on Wednesday after the Green Brigade fans’ group encouraged supporters to “courageously fly the flag for Palestine” amid the escalation of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
The display of support for the Palestinian civilians won the praise of many people on social media.
