Former Football Star Jota Peleteiro Embraces Islam

Former footballer Jota Peleteiro, who played for Alaves, Brentford and Aston Villa, has converted to Islam.

The 32-year-old Spanish player, who also played for Real Madrid Castilla, a Real Madrid reserve team, took the decision after he was impressed with the treatment he received from his Kuwaiti friend Faisal Buresli, according to Al-Qabas, Be Soccer reported.

Last week, Peleteiro travelled to Kuwait to complete his conversion to Islam. The idea began to cross Peleteiro’s mind a year ago when he first visited Buresli, whom he described as “friend, business partner and brother.”

Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the world, with the number of Muslims set to grow at more than twice the rate of the overall world population between 2015 and 2060 according to research by the Pew Research Center.

Last year, Rodtang Jitmuangnon, the reigning ONE Championship flyweight Muay Thai champion, converted to Islam.

German footballer Robert Bauer has converted to Islam, announcing the decision on his official Instagram account.
