Saving 29 Lives, British Muslim Rail Worker Uses Social Media to Save More

Receiving MBE honor for saving 29 people from committing suicide, Rizwan Javed MBE, a British Muslim rail worker, is now using his fame and platform to normalize discussions on mental health and help people overcome mental problems.

Javed, from East London, works for the MTR Elizabeth line at Ealing Broadway station. He has helped save each life by being alert and approaching vulnerable individuals in difficult situations.

The 33-year-old also runs Instagram and TikTok accounts to share his experiences, aimed at inspiring others, TRT World reported.

“In this world, humanity knows no boundaries. It doesn’t matter what religion we follow or what color our skin is; we are all connected by our shared desire to uplift one another,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Every act of kindness, no matter how small, has the potential to transform lives. It’s about lending an ear to someone in need, offering a helping hand, or simply being there for those who feel alone.”

Make a Difference

Javed urged his followers to make a difference in people’s life by spreading awareness and understanding.

“We all have the capacity to make a difference, and it starts with spreading awareness and understanding. Let’s break the barriers that divide us and embrace the diversity that enriches our world. By choosing empathy over judgment, we can create lasting change,” he added.

“Today, I urge you to reflect on your own potential to make a difference. Reach out to someone in need, lend a helping hand, or support a cause close to your heart. Let’s be the ones who inspire change and create a world where every individual feels seen, heard, and loved.”

Allah tells us that “If anyone saved a life it would be as if he saved the life of the whole humanity.” Quran 5:32

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death amongst youth aged 10-34.

In general, suicide is viewed by Muslims as taking away the gift of life given by God. The Qur’an says to trust God, have faith in the mercy of God, have patience, and not to destroy life.

Muslims believe that people are all interdependent. Taking a life unjustly, be it your own someone else’s, is the same as taking the lives of all of humanity. Likewise, saving a life is the equivalent of saving all of humanity.
