BEREAVED MUSLIM FAMILIES TO BE JOINED BY PM AT NATIONAL MEMORAIL SERVICE

The names of the 51 men, women and children killed in a terror attack on two Christchurch mosques will be read out by members of their bereaved families at a memorial service on Saturday.

Ko Tātou, Tātou, We Are One, the national remembrance service, will mark the second anniversary of the deadly March 15 attack.

It will be livestreamed on Stuff.

The service, which begins at 3pm, will hear from Dr Kiran Munir, who will speak on behalf of the families. Munir’s husband and father of their two children, Haroon Mahmood, died in the An-Nur Masjid (Al Nor mosque).

Maha Elmadani will give an address on behalf of the affected Muslim yourth.

She lost her father, retired engineer Ali Mah’d Elmadani, 66.

Faisal Sayed, of the Linwood Islamic Centre, will speak on behalf of the wider Muslim community. Imam Gamal Fouda , Imam Alabi Lateef and Ngāi Tahu representatives will be part of proceedings.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will give the final address at the service at Christchurch Arena.
