A Hindu man adopts a Muslim woman and raises her in Islam

A man named Madanan, who is a devout Hindu, adopted a destitute Muslim girl, raised her in Islam and married her in accordance with Sharia, according to the website al Haqeeqa.

January 8, 2018 was a day of mixed feelings for Madanan, a Hindu from the village of Kalariparambu, located near the city of Thrissur in the state of Kerala in India. His eyes filled with tears as he said goodbye to his adopted daughter Khadija, who had married a young man named Akbar. Although Madanan knew that he and his wife would miss her, the joy he experienced as a father on his daughter’s wedding day was much greater.

Madanan and Thankamani raised Khadija as their own daughter, taking care of her every need and showering her with parental love. Although they themselves were followers of Hinduism, the adoptive parents did not ask the girl to change religion and raised her as a devout Muslim. In their house, they organized a special place where Khadija could perform five obligatory prayers every day. Thankamani cooked for her her favorite Ramadan dishes for suhoor (pre-dawn meal) and iftar (breaking the fast). Also, every evening during the holy month, Madanan bought the girl her favorite treats.

When the time came to give Khadija in marriage, Madanan, like a real father, took on all the corresponding duties and responsibilities. He not only found a suitable Muslim husband for his adopted daughter, but also paid all the expenses associated with the wedding. The man went to the local mosque to ask the imam for a Sharia-compliant marriage, explaining that he was giving the hand of his adopted Muslim daughter to a young man named Akbar. He also attended the nikah ceremony. Relatives of both Madanan and Khadiji came to the wedding.

Madanan and Thankamani decided to continue taking care of Khadija even after their marriage. “Her marriage doesn’t change anything. She will always be our dear daughter,” the couple say.
